洞山寺是佛教禅宗曹洞宗的祖庭。古往今来，不少名流学者远道而来，洞山因此人文荟萃。洞山寺茶室正是为寺庙以茶待客而修建的。洞山茶室设计的初衷就是一间停于山水之间的木屋。
Dong Shan Temple is the cradle of Soto Shu of Chinese Zen Shu. From ancient to modern times, because of the beautiful scenery, pleasant climate, and cultural fest, Dong Shan attracts amount of scholars and celebrities gathered here. The tea house of Dong Shan Temple is the place where the abbot entertains guests by the tea. The original intention of Dong Shan Teahouse is a simple wooden shed in-between the mountains and waters.
此案使用了一种新的木结构形式，简化、高举了屋架，通过屋顶木构件的交叉和贯通，将传统屋架的举折转化为构件交叉处的转折，使屋架构件的数量减少，用料减小，内部空间更加通透完整，屋顶立面更高耸挺拔，同时保持了与传统屋顶形式相通的意象。传统屋顶的抛物线曲线转化为了更干脆利落的折线，也暗合了禅宗不立文字、直指人心的思想。
In this project, we use a new frame of wooden structure which simplifies and elevates the roof. The crossing and holing-through of the wooden structure reduce the quantities and size of structural components, create a penetrative-convection and complete space, and the high and steep roof elevations, but at same time maintain the connecting image of traditional roof. The transforming from traditional parabolic-line roof to the more laconical fold-line roof coincides with the Zen thought, no text but Straight to the heart.
